Meant exists to host your work and the story behind it. To do that we need to keep some of your information. This page says exactly which, why, who else handles it and what you can ask for at any time.
Who is responsible
Meant is an independent project, made in Brazil. For anything on this page, write to meant.music2026@gmail.com.
What is public, because you chose it
Your page at meantmusic.com/your-address is public. Anyone with the link sees, without an account:
- your artist name and your page’s address;
- your photo, your cover photo and your extra photos, if you uploaded them;
- your story;
- your published songs — the title, the why behind each one, the lyrics when there are any, the cover and the audio file.
That is the product, not a side effect: you publish to be heard. What you don’t publish, nobody sees — a song without audio, or without its why, or one you hid, is not shown to any visitor.
Your e-mail never appears on your page.
What we keep, and nothing more
- Your e-mail, to identify your account and to talk to you about it.
- An identifier for your login, created by the authentication service. It says that you are you, and nothing about who you are.
- What you wrote and uploaded: artist name, page address, story, songs, whys, lyrics, images and audio files.
- The addresses your page has had, so that old links you sent to people keep working.
- Creation dates, to order your page.
- A request counter per network address, to stop robots and abuse. The address itself is never stored: what is kept is a code scrambled with a secret, which can’t be turned back into the address, and it is deleted within a day. This applies to every visitor, with or without an account.
- Daily counts, with nobody in them. How many times each artist's page was opened, how many plays started and how many reached 30 seconds, on how many songs the why stayed on screen. Only the total of each day: nothing says who it was, no cookie is used for it, and no outside service receives it. It tells us whether Meant works.
When you like or save a song, or follow an artist, we keep that gesture for as long as you keep it. You see it in your account and can undo it whenever you want.
When you listen with an account, we keep that your account listened to a song on a given day — for 30 days, and only to count how many people listen to each artist. After that, the record is deleted. People who listen without an account aren’t recorded: we only add one to a counter for that song, with nothing that identifies anyone.
Artists see numbers, never names: how many people listened, liked, saved or follow them — not who.
If your account is only for listening, the login stays with the authentication service, and our database keeps only what is described above.
We don’t ask for an ID number, phone number, home address, date of birth or payment details. Meant charges nothing today and processes no payments at all.
What we don’t do
These aren’t marketing promises: they describe what exists, or doesn’t, in the code.
- There are no trackers. No Google Analytics, no social media pixel, no third-party measurement tool. None.
- There is no advertising, and none of your data is sold, rented or handed over for commercial purposes.
- There is no public scoreboard. Nobody sees anyone else’s exact play, like or follower counts. The home page is ordered by the proportion of likes to listeners, without showing a number or a position; an artist’s page shows at most an approximate listener band, from 100 a month up. Artists see the exact numbers of their own work, and only their own.
- We don’t build behavioral profiles of listeners, for recommendations or for anything else. The listening record lasts 30 days and is used only to count listeners.
Cookies
Meant uses a single cookie, and it is not for advertising, measurement or cross-site tracking: the session cookie, which keeps you logged in after you sign in. Without it, you would have to log in on every click.
You don’t need an account to listen. An account is for liking, saving songs and following artists.
The site speaks English or Portuguese according to the language your browser asks for on each visit, and stores nothing about it.
Who else handles this data
Meant is a small project and relies on infrastructure services to work. Each one sees only the part it needs:
- Clerk — handles login and keeps your e-mail and password. Your password never passes through Meant, and we never see it.
- Google — only if you choose to sign in with Google. In that case Google tells us your e-mail and your name. If you sign in with e-mail and password, Google isn’t involved at all.
- Neon — hosts the database with the texts and your account information.
- Cloudflare — stores and delivers your audio and image files, and handles the site’s address.
- Vercel — hosts the application and keeps technical access logs for a short period, like any server.
- Sentry — receives a report when a page breaks: what went wrong, on which screen and in which browser. It is there to fix the error. It doesn’t receive your network address, your cookies or what you wrote, and it doesn’t measure who visits.
These services are mostly in the United States. Using Meant involves this international transfer, and it happens because the service can’t exist without it.
For how long
For as long as your account exists. Work published on Meant doesn’t expire, doesn’t get old and isn’t removed for inactivity — that is a principle of the product, not just a policy.
When you delete a song, its audio file is removed from storage with it. The listening record is deleted after 30 days. When you delete your account, your data — including likes, saved songs, followed artists and listens —, your files and your login are deleted right away.
The daily counts are kept with no deadline, since there is nobody in them. Those of an artist's page go when the page is deleted.
Your rights
Brazil’s General Data Protection Law (LGPD, Law 13,709/2018) guarantees that you can, at any time:
- know whether we process your data, and which data;
- ask for a copy of it;
- correct anything wrong or incomplete;
- ask for your account and everything that is yours to be deleted;
- know who we share it with — the list above is that answer;
- withdraw your consent, which means closing your account.
You can do most of this yourself, right away, from your area at /account: edit your name, address, story and songs, and delete whatever you want.
To delete your whole account, use the “Delete my account” button at the end of /account/profile — or at /account, if your account is only for listening. It deletes everything right away, without asking you to request it or explain why. For anything else — a copy of your data, for example — write to meant.music2026@gmail.com. We reply within 15 days.
Age
You must be 18 or older to have an account on Meant. If you are a minor, the account must be created and managed by your parent or legal guardian.
Security, honestly
The site is always accessed over an encrypted connection, passwords stay with a specialized service, and each artist sees only what is theirs. Even so, no system is infallible. If an incident happens that could affect you, we will tell you and the competent authority.
Changes to this page
If anything here changes, the date at the top changes with it. If the change matters to you, we will tell you by e-mail before it takes effect.
